A higher proportion than ever of school and college leavers go on to further education with the majority of those enrolling in University. With the tough economic climate upon us and the job market under performing, more 18 year olds are studying for a degree than ever before. With record levels being set as student numbers increase this category now accounts for a massive £20 billion.

Music

Students favourite leisure interest is music. Going to gigs, downloading their favourite artist tracks and discussing the latest music fashions is high on their agenda.

Gaming

Gaming has exploded in the last 5 years, driven by a breadth of offerings from manufacturers. 89% of students have a games console and this forms a large group activity especially at university.

Cinema/Entertainment

18 to 24’s and specifically students are three times as likely to go to the cinema than your average person. In fact this group spend an average of £200 per month on going out and socialising.

The Daily Grind

Sub.tv student gaming imageOn a normal day the average student gets 7.2 hours of sleep, spends about an hour getting to/from university, does 3.6 hours of lectures, 3.4 hours of private study, spends up to an hour eating, does an hour in the gym/sports team, 4 hours in paid work and 5.3 hours of socialising mostly within the university or college campus.
Internet / Email / Online chatting and Social Networking have become major features in modern student spare time and are now even more popular than meeting friends and family, showing that face-to-face interaction is becoming less important to the social network generation.
Undergraduates have more time for going to the pub/bar/clubbing and participating in clubs/societies than postgraduates who spend more time reading and in study, but like to get out and socialise where possible.
Over four-fifths of students use public transport.
