We consulted media owners Sub.tv and Campus Group to compile the key facts you should know:

1) The UK's student population is 2.3 million, representing roughly a 1/3 of the youth market and rising by an average of 4% year on year.
2) Music is their number one interest, with 90% of students spending up to £20 on music per month, 79% going to a gig at least once a month and 30% listing concert attendance as a major spare time activity.
3) The top three ways students say they spend spare time are 'sleeping', 'online' and in the 'pub'.
4) Students spend an average of 6.3 hours socialising with their friends every day.
5) 99% have a mobile phone, 96% have a laptop computer, 83% own an mp3 player and 51% own a games console.
6) 87% of students spend an average of up to £200 per month on going out. They are also heavy cinema goers.
