There are thirteen categories and students submit an article into their chosen category. The winning articles are chosen by a high profile panel of judges including Jon Snow, Alan Rusbridger, Piers Morgan and Samira Ahmed. A winner is picked from each category, plus one overall winner who displays outstanding talent and promise. All shortlisted contestants are invited to the student media conference, and the post conference awards ceremony.
