Tell us about the Opportunity / What is it?

GB Media comprises of a magazine(UK, China & India editions), website, a goody bag (distributed 5 times a year) and a global social media presence through which brands can access the large and affluent - but hard to reach international student community at UK universities. The UK is the second largest market for international students, and attracted over half a million overseas students last year (a third of all university students). Our lifestyle media provides them with insights, knowledge and advice they are looking for which includes which brands to champion.

What is the Marketing Objective?

We can help brands unlock a consumer base that is half a million strong, relatively untapped and replenished every year. These students have the spending power of a young professional and are big spenders on luxury brands, travel and are willing to pay for convenience. Our media drives sales, raises a brands profile in the UK and additionally into the countries where the students come from - which includes China, India and North America.

How does it work?

We engage with these students before they arrive in the UK through our website, social media and GB Mag (one issue is distributed in China to students who will be coming over to the UK) and continuously throughout the academic year at touch-points such as their arrival, Chinese New Year and Diwali celebrations - where we distribute goody bags. We can take a brand message or promotion directly to these students through one of our media channels. And as we are talking to a distinct student audience through a media that is exclusively for them the ROI is easily measured.
