Targeted Product Sampling in Tesco Healthcare Goody Bags

A themed in store sampling opportunity for brands targeting health conscious Tesco customers across the UK

Tell us about the Opportunity / What is it?

Tesco customers talking to pharmacy staff will be offered a themed goody bag if they have identified themselves as having a particular interest in the theme of the month e.g. Hay Fever/Men's Health/Stress Busting. The goody bags enable brands sold across the Tesco store to be trialled by these targeted customers. Each bag aims to offer the customer at least £10 worth of products/money off coupons. This is a very tactical, micro promotion which is not advertised in store, but which is designed to 'surprise and delight' customers and build their awareness of new brands.

What is the Marketing Objective?

1. to offer brands a highly targeted in store sampling opportunity 2. to enable pharmacy staff to engage more positively with customers 3. to give health conscious customers the chance to try new products which match their lifestyle

How does it work?

A schedule of 200k + themed Pharmacy Goody Bag themes with Tesco buyers ensuring that the monthly themes are supported by in store promotions across the year. We then approach brand managers, national account managers, media agencies, PR agencies and sales promotions agencies who may have an interest in inserting products/information/coupons into relevant themed bags across the year. Once a booking is confirmed, we circulate delivery instructions, pack the bags, despatch to all participating stores and send clients sample bags for their files.

Benefit from a highly targeted campaign - your product is only offered to customers who identify themselves as having an interest in the promotional theme and all inserts are approved by the Chief Superindendent Tesco Pharmacist. Each goody bag contains a letter for customers from Tesco listing website details for each participating brand. Pharmacists across the UK are briefed on each goody bag promotion by Tesco Head Office and are sent a letter listing all brands included so that they can provide further information to customers.
