What was the Challenge / Background of the Campaign?

Media Sales Network was briefed by the Midway Games via their advertising agency Miller Advertising,to propose a campaign promoting the launch of Blacksite Area 51 on Play Station 3 & Xbox platforms.Our solution was to create an unbranded viral video (over 18's only) that showed two young men being attacked by a mysterious force in a stairwell.The viral was seeded on FHM.com, zootoday.com and several social networking sites.After two weeks we launched an advertorial that revealed the mysterious attackers in the movie and included a competition and editorial about the game. What was the Campaign Objective?

The main objective was to entice casual gamers to purchase and generate real standout against competitors that were due to release similar games around the same time, all of which had greater marketing budgets. Additional campaign requirements stipulated a need to increase the number of potential customers registered on Midways email newsletter. Generating data capture was key to accessing the success of the campaign alongside sales volumes of the game itself.
